Membership Information:

AQHA and MQHA Memberships
This outline is provided to help prospective MQHA members determine memberships in which to enroll. Please refer to AQHA rules for specifics on AQHA memberships.

AQHA Memberships
In order to show AQHA quarter horses in AQHA approved shows, the appropriate membership card is required to be presented as the exhibitor enters the horse at the show office. Points are awarded on the horse for top placings in classes and are accumulated over the lifetime of the horse. The AQHA yearly membership year runs from the time the memberships is recorded and through the 12 succeeding months.

There are several types of memberships:
AQHA Membership - Individual, joint, or assumed or trade name, partnership categories (see AQHA rules for full list). Any registered quarter horse may be shown by AQHA member in open classes. AQHA members are not eligible to show in Amateur or Youth classes. AQHA membership card issued.
Amateur Membership - Applicant has not shown, judged or trained or assisted in training a horse for remuneration for the previous five years. Amateur must be sole legal owner of horse being shown by or owned by family member or legal guardian as defined by AQHA. AQHA Amateur membership card issued.
Novice Amateur Membership - Amateur who has not earned 25 or more halter points or 25 or more performance points in combined AQHA open, amateur or novice amateur division classes in a particular skill set (see AQHA rules.). Above Amateur membership conditions apply. These points recorded on Amateur not horse. Novice card issued
Youth Membership - AQHA Youth membership card issued. Eligible for youth 18 years or under. Horse being shown must be solely owned by youth, youth's parents, sibling, etc. (see AQHA rules for full listing of possible owner relationships).
Novice Youth Membership - Youth who has not earned 25 or more halter points or 25 or more performance points in combined AQHA open, youth or novice youth division classes in a particular skill set (see AQHA rules.) These points are recorded on Youth not horse. Above youth membership conditions apply. Novice Card issued.

MQHA Memberships
The Minnesota Quarter Horse Association is a state affiliate of the American Quarter Horse Association. In addition to many sponsored state activities, the MQHA host an annual awards banquet, presenting awards to high point horse shown each year in the state at AQHA/MQHA approved shows. MQHA points are accumulated on a horse for the calendar year. Contestants are required to be MQHA members in order to accumulate points on horses exhibited. Appropriate AQHA horse ownership rules apply to MQHA, MAQHA and MYQHA memberships.

MQHA has three types of memberships. The MQHA membership year is January 1 through December 1. MQHA does not issue membership cards. MQHA, MQHA Amateur and Youth Association membership records are maintained on a data base available to MQHA.

MQHA Membership - Individual, family membership, partnership, corporate. Required for earning of state points for year end awards. Membership provides all privileges of MQHA. Required for participation in MQHA Open/Non Pro Futurity* and MSSA Futurity. MQHA membership in the parent association (MQHA) is required for membership in MAQHA Amateur or MYQHA Youth associations.
MAQHA Amateur Membership - membership is MQHA Amateur Association. One or both spouses may enroll in Amateur membership with a MQHA family membership. Amateur membership is required for earning of state points for year end awards in the Amateur classes division. Eligibility for points earned in Novice classes is verified by AQHA Novice Amateur presented by exhibitor at horse show office.
MYQHA Youth Membership - membership in MQHA Youth Association. One of more youth may enroll in Youth membership with a MQHA family membership. Youth membership is required for earning of state points for year end awards in the Youth classes division as well as participation in variety of youth teams and leadership programs. Eligibility for points earned in Novice classes is verified by AQHA Novice Youth card presented by exhibitor at horse show office.

*MQHA membership with AQHA Amateur card or AQHA Youth Card is required to exhibit in Non Pro Futurity.
MQHA is also a member of WSCA, so by having a MQHA membership you are also eligible for WSCA events.
